LEXINGTON, Va. – Hoping for victory after returning to Patchin Field, the VMI men’s soccer team fell by a 6-0 score to visiting Furman Saturday afternoon to open Southern Conference play.
The Paladins scored twice in the opening half and four times in the second to earn the win as they outshot the Keydets by a 26-6 margin, including nine on goal to VMI’s two. With the loss, the Keydets fall to 0-6 on the year while Furman improves to 5-2-1.
Aiqbekan Noseqbe put Furman on the board first in the 37th minute while Josiah Baker added a goal just before halftime. Leading scorer Lewis Hawke scored twice for the Paladins in the second half to extend the lead with Evan De Ycaza and Emery May also contributing.
Keydet goalie Mason Worsham played a complete game in the loss and picked up two saves during the match.
VMI quickly returns to action Tuesday with a home match against UNCG. Kickoff is slated for a 4 p.m. start at Patchin Field.
