COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Unable to recover from a slow start, the VMI lacrosse team took an 11-6 defeat at the hands of host Air Force Academy Saturday at Cadet Lacrosse Stadium in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

The Keydets (1-5, 0-2) allowed five Falcon goals in the opening period before sophomore John Daniel scored VMI’s first goal at the 12:21 mark of the second period. The Keydets were unable to make continued stops, however, as the Falcons (3-5, 1-0) rattled off four more goals in the second quarter to go ahead by a 9-1 count at the half. VMI was able to make adjustments in the second half to outscore the Falcons, 5-2, over the final two quarters but the damage proved insurmountable to overcome.

VMI freshman attack Ryan Perouty led the way for the Keydets by scoring a hat trick with two goals in the third quarter and another in the fourth for three goals, his second highest tally of the year after logging four at NJIT on February 24.

Freshman Anthony Moran and junior Austin Henry also scored goals for the Keydets in the third quarter. Earning assists on the day were Keydets Austin Hughes, Wesley Sanders and John Daniel.

Air Force’s Nick Hruby led the Falcons with four goals on the day while Matthew O’Rourk added three. Kyle Richbourg, Cameron Carter, Jake Thornally and Chet Dunstan were credited with solo goals throughout the game.

VMI keeper picks up the loss despite 11 saves on the afternoon while AFA goalie Braden Host earned the win with two saves on the day.

The Keydets return home for two consecutive weekends starting with a game Saturday against SoCon opponent Furman at noon at Drill Field No. 2. VMI will face Hampton at home on Saturday, March 31 at noon.
