Luckett Paces Women's XC at George Mason

LEESBURG, Va. - Logan Luckett led the way for the VMI women's cross country team with a 19th-place finish, as the squad competed at the Mason Invitational, contested Saturday morning at Oatlands Plantation in Leesburg, Va.

Luckett crossed the line on the course, measured just over 6K, in 23:33 to finish 19th and lead VMI for the first time this season. Bethany King was 24th in 23:51 and Anna Armfield, for the fourth straight race, served as VMI's number three runner. Armfield was 46th with a time of 24:47.

"Logan Luckett ran very strong in the second half of today's race," said VMI head coach Dr. Drew Ludtke. "She passed a great deal of runners today. All told, our team ran strong and confident races and I was happy with the effort and competition level of our team. I am excited to see how our team competes in the next two meets."

Other Keydet finishers included Kathleen Yates (57th/26:16), Isabela Melendez (59th/26:26) and Sadie Sandifer (62nd/26:51).

As a team, the Keydets finished seventh with 169 points. VMI finished 15 points behind sixth-place George Washington in the race won by Saint Joseph's (Pa.).

VMI cross country will return to action Oct. 13 at the VertCross Invite in Kernersville, N.C.
