Rifle Teams Compete with Air Force Academy

LEXINGTON, Va. – In its second match in as many days, the VMI rifle teams competed well with the visiting Air Force Academy but came up a bit short as the Falcons prevailed Sunday morning at Kilbourne Hall.

A day after facing a tough North Georgia squad, the Keydet mixed team earned an aggregate 4505 score but it was not enough to overcome Air Force, which totaled 4656 points for the day. The VMI women came in third with 4393 points.

Sophomores Hunter Jacob and Nick Reynolds led the mixed team in the rifle as both shot a 572 for the event toward a 2276 combined score for the category. Samantha Alexander (567) and William Davidson (565) also scored team points in the event toward the total, with Chris Milliken not far behind with a 542.

John Pitman had the highest score for the mixed team in the smallbore as he shot a 559 slightly above the 557 shot by both Reynolds and Alexander. Davidson was the fourth VMI scorer for the category as he shot a 556 tally for the event.

Senior Alice Chiu led the VMI women in the air rifle with her 567 just on top of the 564 shot by fellow senior Katherine Watson. Sabrina Bell (558) and Kaitlyn Morrison (548) also scored for the VMI women while Kerrie Lightfoot registered a 547 not far behind.

In the smallbore category, Chiu and Watson again led the Keydets as they both tallied a 546 to lead the team. Loyce Lightfoot (535) and Kelia Aardema (529) also contributed to the final team score for the category. Joelle Henry earned a 504 for the event on the day. 
The Keydets return to action next Saturday at Kilbourne Hall where they will face Southern Conference members Wofford and UAB.
