SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Junior lacrosse defender Kyle Walsh has earned the attention of head coaches across the Southern Conference as he was named to the Preseason All-SoCon Team announced Thursday afternoon.

A co-Team MVP last season, the Easton, Pennsylvania, native started 13 games and ranked first on the team in groundballs with 44 and caused a team-high 22 turnovers. His 1.69 caused turnover per game average ranked third in the SoCon and 15th overall in Division I lacrosse. He scored three goals for the season on seven shot attempts.

Named an Alpha Company corporal prior to his sophomore year, Walsh had a great freshman season in 2016 when he was named to the SoCon All-Freshman team after leading VMI in groundballs (60) and caused turnovers (28).

An excellent student, Walsh has been recognized on the Dean’s List, the Cadet-Athlete Honors Society and the SoCon Honor Roll during his time at VMI.

Two-time defending Southern Conference champion Air Force was picked to win the league again in 2018. The No. 17-ranked Falcons (47 votes) were trailed closely by No. 20-ranked Richmond’s 43 votes.

The Keydets’ 2018 campaign begins in three weeks on Feb. 17 when VMI travels to Riverdale, New York, to face Manhattan at 1 p.m.
