EMMITSBURG, Md. - Wins by John Kim, Natalie Rivas, David Turbyfill and Ryan Schmitz, as well as a rare victory in diving, were not enough, as the VMI swimming and diving teams each dropped a dual meet against the Mountaineers of Mount St. Mary's Saturday in Emmitsburg, Md. The VMI women (0-2) fell 124-76, while the VMI men (1-1) dropped a 119-95 decision.

The Keydet men saw Schmitz win two races - the 50-meter free and 100-meter free - once again, one day after he opened the year by winning the 50 free and 50 fly Friday. Saturday, he timed in at 24.49 to win the 50 and 54.60 to take the 100. Brady Gannon finished one spot behind Schmitz in the 50, touching the wall in 24.92 seconds.

Kim, meanwhile, took the 100 back in 59.51 and Turbyfill won the 1,500 in 17:40.33. Other results on the men's side included second place finishes from Jacob Smilie in the 200 free (2:01.04), Jake Boulter in the 100 fly (1:01.92) and Thomas Muldowney in the 400 free (4:23.86).

For the Keydet women, Rivas took the 50 free for the second straight day, this time with a 28.66 time. Calle Biles was the other winner for the women's team, winning the 1-meter diving in her collegiate debut in the event. Biles scored 153.76 points, the first win by a VMI woman in a diving event since Jan. 24, 2015, when Heather Magill swept the 1 and 3-meter events in a tri-meet at Washington & Lee.

Finally, Morgan Davis was second in the 200 free (2:17.84) and Zoe Salafatinos finished second in the 100 back (1:15.32).

VMI swimming and diving will return to action Oct. 20, when the Keydets take part in the Virginia Tech Sprint Invitational in Christiansburg.
