Knoblett Leads VMI's Second Half Charge Past Hampton, 4-1

HAMPTON, Va. - Four second-half goals, including two by Julianne Knoblett, sent the VMI Keydets past the Hampton Lady Pirates, 4-1, in women's soccer action Monday in Hampton, Va.

Hampton (0-2) had taken a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute, the first lead the Lady Pirates had ever taken against VMI, but the Keydets (1-1) came back in the 59th minute with a Knoblett goal that bounced in off a Hampton defender.

Taylor Callahan tacked on the eventual game-winner in the 64th minute, while Emma Quirk (84th) and Knoblett (87th) wrapped up the scoring. Keniya Lee was credited with the day's lone assist, coming on Knoblett's final goal.

On the day, VMI outshot Hampton by a 26-4 count, including 16-1 in the decisive second half. Hampton made 15 saves, including eight by starting keeper Haley Nelson, but Nelson was removed after Knoblett's first goal and backup Maya Andrews surrendered three scores in the final 31:33.

Ceci Keppeler was credited with one save for the Keydets, but it was Sidney Swoope who played the second half and was credited with the victory.

VMI women's soccer will return to action Thursday, when the Keydets travel to Washington, D.C. to take on American. The match will get underway at 4 p.m.
