VMI track and field opens its 2018 season Friday, when the Keydets take part in the ETSU Invitational in Johnson City, Tenn. Action gets underway at 9 a.m., and then resumes Saturday at 8 a.m.
How to Follow
Fans can follow along with the action via live results.
This marks the second time in four years that VMI will open at ETSU, as the team also did so in 2015.
This will be VMI's only meet away from Lexington until the Kent State tuneup on Feb. 17.
Events to Watch
Men's Weight Throw - 1 p.m. Friday
One of the main stories of this year's VMI track and field season will be one of depth, particularly in the size of this year's class of newcomers. One of those newcomers is Daniel Usher, a transfer who is a former first team junior college All-American in the shot put and hammer throw. Usher will be in action here, along with veteran Ross Condrey.
Men's Mile - 11:17 a.m. Saturday
If fans want to see multiple Keydets competing at once, this is the event to do it. Five VMI runners are entered here, including Jay Broom and Kyle Sabourin, the top two Keydets for this year's cross country team. Sophomore Justin Adams and freshmen Davonte Hernandez and Jake Mazziotta will join them.
Women's Shot Put - 4:30 p.m. Saturday
This event will feature not only another one of the Keydet freshmen, Sarah Leckman, but also Tiffany Quick's season debut in her best event, one that saw her earn a podium finish at last year's SoCon Championships.
Next Time Out
The Keydets return to action, and host their first indoor home meet since Feb. 16, 2013, Jan. 19 when they welcome 27 schools to the Corps Physical Training Facility for the Keydet Invitational. The two-day meet begins January 19 at 2 p.m., and admission is free.
