LEXINGTON, Va. - In the lone home dual meet of the year for VMI swimming and diving, John Kim won the 200 back but the William & Mary Tribe swept both ends of the meet contested Saturday at Clark King Pool on VMI Post in Lexington, Va. The Tribe defeated VMI's women (0-7) 162-37 and won the men's meet 150-55.

Kim was VMI's lone victor on the day, as he pulled away in the middle portions of the race to win in his best event, the 200 back. Kim touched the wall in 1:53.50, just off the school record he set in 2014.

Kim also led a runner-up effort in the first event of the men's meet, the 400 medley relay, when the Keydet squad timed in at 3:36.16 (Kim, Morrison, Boulter, Gannon), and also swam anchor on the second-place 200 free relay effort (1:28.51).

Bret Tomajczyk and Ryan Schmitz earned runner-up finishes for the Keydets (1-5), with Tomajczyk placing second in the 200 breast (2:20.90) and Schmitz doing so in the 50 free (22.29).

Natalie Rivas and Isabel French earned runner-up finishes for the VMI women, with French doing so in the 200 breast (2:36.36) and Rivas accomplishing the feat in the 50 free (25.16).

Prior to the meet, the senior classes of both the men's and women's programs were recognized on the pool deck with a brief presentation.

"It was great getting a chance to honor our seniors and compete at home in front of our fans," said VMI head coach Andrew Bretscher. "The team had many great swims today. John Kim, one of those seniors, had the top swim with his effort in the 200 back. With how hard we have been training, to come as close as he did to his school record was outstanding. Today's efforts get me excited to see how we will do once we are rested."

VMI swimming and diving returns to action Wednesday at Loyola in Baltimore, with a meet scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
