VMI basketball opens the 2017-18 season on the road Friday evening, when the Keydets take on the Wolfpack of NC State. Tip time is set for 7 p.m. The game can be seen live - with participating provider - on WatchESPN and the ESPN app via ACC Network Extra. In addition, an audio broadcast can be heard in the Lexington area on AM 1450 WREL with accompanying feed on Live stats will also be available.

This year’s version of the Keydets is a young one, with seven newcomers, all of which are true freshmen. Two seniors return, Fred Iruafemi and Armani Branch, while last year’s freshman class, including point guard Keith Smith, forwards Will Miller and Tyler Creammer, and two-guard Garrett Gilkeson, will be looked to for increased contribution.

Last Meeting with NC State (11/23/2005):

NC State extended their unbeaten streak to four straight games to start the 2005-06 season with a 75-55 win over VMI in the last meeting between the teams, which took place Nov. 23, 2005 in Raleigh before over 10,000 fans. Reggie Williams led VMI with 10 points, but five NC State players finished in double figures to lead the home squad, which made 15 more free throws than the Keydets in its victory.

A VMI win against NC State would:

Be the Keydets’ first win over the Wolfpack, a former member of the SoCon, since the 1940-41 season.

Be VMI’s first road win to start a season since 2008-09 (Kentucky at Rupp Arena)

Be VMI’s first win in program history on November 10 (0-3).
