Rifle Teams Top Wofford College

LEXINGTON, Va – The VMI mixed and women’s rifle teams took first and second place in the last home match of the year over Wofford College Saturday morning at Kilbourne Hall.

 

The VMI co-ed team earned 4510 total aggregate points for first place while the VMI women’s team placedsecond with 4431 aggregate points. Wofford placed third with 4416 aggregate points.

 

Freshman Alexander Allison led the Keydets, winning first among top individuals with 1135 aggregate points. Seniors Hunter Jacob and Kelia Aardema place third and fourth with 1126 and 1124 aggregate points, respectively. Sophomores Samantha Reid and Claire Lee place fifth and sixth with 1121 and 1112 total points. Fellow sophomores Jessica Hankin (1097) and Savanah Diamond (1096) rounded out the top ten individuals with ninth- and 10th-place finishes.

 

During individual smallbore competition, Alexander Allison earned a first-place finish with 561 smallbore points. Hunter Jacob (552), Samantha Reid (551), William Davidson (550), and Stephen Garner (549) placed third through sixth, respectively. Kelia Aardema placed eighth with 546 points, and Simon Krauthamer placed tenth with 545 points for the VMI top ten standings in the smallbore. Claire Lee (11th), Jessica Hankin (12th), Nicholas Schaefer (13th), Savanah Diamond (14th), Kolton Dobson (16th), and Cassidy Dufour (17th) all represented VMI in smallbore competition.

 

In air rifle competition, Kelia Aardema earned a first-place finish with 578 points. Alexander Allison (574), Hunter Jacob (574), James Doucett (572), Claire Lee (571), Samantha Reid (570), Nick Reynolds (568), Lauren Dost (566), and Savanah Diamond (565) took over the top rankings for air rifle, placing third through 10th, respectively. Jessica Hankin (12th), Mason Tarkenton (14th), Joseph Snyder (16th), Jason Gardner (19th), and Carlie Shaffer (29th) also represented VMI in air rifle competition.

 

The VMI rifle teams will compete against Wofford again in the near future, this time traveling to Spartanburg, South Carolina, on December 7.
