Men’s Soccer Travels to NJ Tech Saturday
LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI men’s soccer team will look to win its second game in a row this Saturday, as the Keydets travel to New Jersey Institute of Technology for non-conference play at 3 p.m. It will be the program’s last non-Southern Conference outing of the 2019 campaign.
Freshman forward Anderson Velazquez scored twice Tuesday to lead VMI to a 4-0 victory over Regent University, and give head coach Charlie Hubbard his first career head coaching win at the school. Richard Quispe had a goal and an assist and Brandon Hornung also found the back of the net. Freshmen Nathan Lam and Peter Sepuveda also had assists. Sophomore Broden Schull made two stops in net to record his second career shutout.
Redshirt junior forward Rene White scored twice in the first half Tuesday, raising his career goal mark to 26 as visiting NJIT and La Salle played to a 2-2 double overtime draw.
NJIT, which climbed back into the United Soccer Coaches Atlantic Region poll in week five, played its fifth overtime match of the season (and fourth double overtime match), moving to 3-3-4 on the season.
