VMI Men’s Soccer Heads to Duquesne Saturday
LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI men’s soccer team will look for its first victory of the 2019 campaign Saturday as the Keydets travel to Duquesne University Saturday in Pittsburgh, Pa. A start time of 11 a.m. has been set for the non-conference match.
The Keydets are coming off a tight 2-1 defeat at UNC-Asheville on Wednesday. VMI trailed 2-0 early before cutting the lead to just one after a goal by lone senior Cooper Duplantis. The Keydets couldn’t convert the tying goal in the game’s final 15 minutes. Sophomore keeper Broden Schull made seven stops in net.
The Dukes are 1-0-1 on the young season, defeating Oakland and tying Bowling Green in the RAM/Duquesne Tournament last weekend. Senior goalkeeper Robbie McKelvey was named the Atlantic 10 Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week after surrendering just one goal in 200 minutes, while posting 14 saves.
VMI makes the shorter trek to Farmville, Va. Wednesday for another non-conference game at Longwood University at 7 p.m.
