Two Keydets Earn MAAC Water Polo honors
Poughkeepsie, N.Y. – The VMI women’s water polo team had two players represented Friday as the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) announced the 2019 all-conference teams and major award winners. The Keydets also had four student-athletes earn spots on the All-Academic Team.
Senior Sarah Dolitsky and red-shirt freshman McKenna Imset each earned second-team All-MAAC honors.
Dolitsky has had her best season as a Keydet as a senior, scoring 74 goals with 22 assists for 96 points. She earned the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the week on Feb. 27. Dolitsky set the school record with eight goals against Macaelster this February, the most in a single game and has 13 hat tricks this season.
Imset leads the team with 86 goals, 106 points and 55 drawn exclusions in 28 games. She shattered the program record for most goals by a freshman in a single season, easily besting the old mark of 68. She netted seven goals in a match twice this season, had six goals once and recorded 14 hat tricks. Imset earned the MAAC Rookie of the Week Award three times this season and the Offensive Player of the Week once. She has found the back of the net in all but two games this year.
Dolitsky, Amber Hamil, Emma Noble and Caroline Wojtas were four of 65 conference student-athletes to earn a spot on the MAAC All-Academic Team. To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic team, a student-athlete must complete two semesters at their institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a 4.0 scale.
The Keydets (16-12/6-8 MAAC) earned a berth in the MAAC post-season tournament for the third-straight season. Fourth-seeded VMI will square off with #1 Wagner College (ranked #19 in the nation) at noon on Saturday at Marist College in the McCann Natatorium. The winner plays in the championship match Sunday at 2 p.m. while the loser heads to the consolation game Sunday at noon. #2 Wagner and #3 Iona will meet Saturday at 2 p.m. in the other semifinal contest.
