Columbia Defeats VMI Wrestling 27-12

NEW YORK CITY, N.Y. – Despite wins in three weight classes, the VMI wrestling team fell 27-12 at Columbia University Saturday afternoon in a non-conference match.

VMI Junior Chris Beck scored a fall in 6:38 to defeat Michael Bulkin at 197 to up his record to 6-5 on the year.

Red-shirt senior Hunter Starner had a hard-fought 4-3 decision at 133 pounds, while red-shirt junior Neal Richards defeated his Columbia opponent 10-5 at 174. Starner is now 8-6 on the season; Richards sports a team-best 12-3 mark.

The Keydets (2-5) are back in action on Sunday, facing Northern Colorado University (11 a.m.) and Hofstra University (3 p.m.) in dual matches at Hofstra.
