Men's Rifle Defeats Wofford at Home

LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI men’s rifle team defeated Wofford Saturday morning in Southern Conference action at Kilbourne Hall.

The men defeated the Terriers, 4499-4437, while the VMI women’s team competed and finished the day with a 4333 aggregate score.

Senior John Pitman led the overall field by finishing first in the air rifle (582) and third in the smallbore (558). Jacob Lagace finished second in the smallbore field with a 559 and William Davidson was close behind with a fourth-place finish of 557. Nick Reynolds also scored team points in the smallbore with a 543 for seventh place in the field.

The VMI women’s smallbore crew was led by junior Kelia Aardema, who scored a 546 for sixth place overall ahead of freshman Samantha Reid’s 14th place score of 524. Jessica Hankin (15th, 522) and Jamie Foster (16th, 511).

After Pitman’s 582 first-place finish in the air rifle, Hunter Jacob placed third in the field with a 569 just ahead of Nick Reynold’s sixth-place mark of 566. Freshman Simon Krauthamer scored team points by way of his eighth-place finish with 565 points.

Aardema also led the VMI women in the air rifle by scoring a 566 for fifth place just ahead of Jamie Foster’s 565 for seventh place. Freshmen Jessica Hankin and Elena Raco also scored points for the women in the air rifle.

The Keydets return to action Sunday at Kilbourne Hall where they will face the Air Force Academy at 8 a.m.
