VMI Swimming hosts Howard and Barton Saturday
LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams host Howard University and Barton College Saturday for a tri-meet in Clark King Pool. It is the last scheduled home meet this season and the program’s eight seniors will be honored in a pre-meet ceremony.
VMI opened the 2018-19 season last weekend at a tri-meet at Loyola University Friday before hosting Mount St. Mary’s Saturday. Six Keydet records were broken, all by freshmen. Five new VMI records are held by Sophie Svoboda and Stephen Hopta now holds one.
Both visiting teams compete Friday in Washington, D.C. Howard takes part in a tri-meet at American University, while Barton swims at Catholic University.
“Both Howard and Barton are tough squads, so we will see some good racing in all the events on Saturday,” said head coach Andrew Bretscher. ”We performed great as a team last weekend, and we will need to compete at the same level again in order to be in the hunt. I believe our team will bring it, because with it being senior day, the team will be competing their hardest to give our seniors a final home meet they can remember.”
