Came to VMI after four years at Hampden-Sydney College where he worked primarily with the defensive line while also serving as both the special teams and video coordinator...in 2015, Stephenson's defensive line helped the Tiger defense lead the ODAC in both scoring defense and total defense, allowing 23.5 points and 366.5 yards-per-game...his punt team units produced school season marks for punt yards average in both 2015 and 2016...2010 graduate of Hampden-Sydney and a four year letter winner for the Tigers...the offensive lineman helped the Tigers to two ODAC Championships, including 2009, when Hampden-Sydney posted a 10-0 regular season for only the second time in school history...in 2011, he obtained his Masters of Education in Sport Leadership from Virginia Commonwealth University...prior to his coaching tenure at Hampden Sydney, Stephenson spent two seasons at the Apprentice School and served as the offensive coordinator...in 2013, Stephenson’s offense set the school season mark for most passing yards and ranked in the top five in passing touchdowns, passing yards per-game, and all-purpose yards...he also had three players earn First Team All-USCAA honors...earlier coaching positions included serving as an offensive line assistant coach at the University of Richmond in 2011...Stephenson got his coaching start in 2010 as a varsity assistant at Mills Godwin high school.
