Leadoff Hitters

Wednesday's game opens a four-game road trip for VMI, after playing nine of its previous 10 games at home.

Scoring first has been critical for the Keydets so far this year - VMI is undefeated at 7-0 when that occurs. The Keydets are just 1-6 when the opponent scores first.

Matt Pita saw his 22-game hitting streak snapped Saturday against UMass Lowell. It was the longest hitting streak by a Keydet since that statistic was first kept by the Institute (2005).

Peyton Maddox has reached base in 23 consecutive contests, dating back to last year, and enters after going 4 for 8 while catching both ends of Saturday’s doubleheader split with UMass Lowell.

The Keydets have not lost a game in which they have either had the lead or been tied at the end of any full inning.

Next Time Out

The Keydets open a three-game set against George Washington in Arlington, Va., Friday at 3 p.m.
