LEXINGTON, Va. – With a 7-2 record and its only losses coming to Top 15 opponents last week, the VMI water polo team heads to Siena College in Loudonville, New York to begin league play with four matches scheduled between Saturday and Sunday.
Saturday, 1:30 p.m. – VMI vs. Iona
Saturday, 6 p.m. – VMI vs. La Salle
Sunday, 9 a.m. – VMI vs. St. Francis (Brooklyn)
Sunday, 1:30 p.m. – VMI vs. No. 17 Wagner
The Keydets face Iona College at 1:30 p.m. Saturday before taking on La Salle at 6 p.m. VMI then has an early wakeup with a 9 a.m. match against St. Francis (Brooklyn) before facing No.17 Wagner College at 1:30 p.m.
VMI swept Iona during the regular season last year for the first time in program history before falling to the Gaels in the consolation match of the MAAC Tournament.
The Keydets faced La Salle three weeks ago in Erie, Pennsylvania, at the Mercyhurst Invitational where VMI earned a 16-8 win over the Explorers. La Salle enters its second year in the league as the Keydets swept the inaugural season series in 2017.
VMI also swept the 2017 season series against St. Francis (Brooklyn) and looks to repeat the feat in 2018.
The Keydets seek their first ever victory over Wagner and came close to accomplishing the goal last year but fell by a slim 10-8 score at home on April 2 and later fell by a 13-10 tally in overtime hosted by the Seahawks on April 9.
