The VMI team was one of 40 teams in attendance at the three-day conference addressing student-athlete health and wellness. The cadet-athletes had the opportunity to attend breakout sessions about student athlete mental health, hazing, the effects of alcohol on athletic performance, and nutrition, among others.

In addition to attending dynamic presentations, cadets Berry and Van Valen presented "Step Up!" bystander intervention training to conference attendees. Berry and Van Valen had the opportunity to join conference organizer Holly Deering in providing training in Bystander Intervention, and followed that with a short presentation about best practices and the implementation of Step Up! at VMI.

The APPLE Conference offers student-athletes with an opportunity to come up with a program that they would like to bring back to their campus for implementation. The cadet-athletes have come up with a number of great program ideas and are working on creating and implementing some initiatives for cadet-athletes around Post.
