LEXINGTON, Va. - The Presbyterian College Blue Hose scored four times in the first 33:35, and went on to a 4-0 victory over the VMI Keydets in Big South women's soccer action Saturday at Patchin Field in Lexington, Va. Tori Lopez led the way for the visitors, notching a hat trick.

Lopez got PC on the board in the 12th minute, as Rebecca Miller plays a cross from the left side into the box. Lopez drilled a header into the back of the net, accounting for her fifth score of the year and a 1-0 Blue Hose lead. She would add another goal less than three minutes later and a third in the 34th minute, while Sara Simpson tacked on a score at 24:05 to account for the visitors' scoring.

Statistically, the game was fairly close, with PC (7-7, 4-4 Big South) holding a 12-10 edge in shots. The two VMI (3-12, 1-7 BSC) goalkeepers, Liz Nickerson and Emily Marbury, combined for four saves to three for the Blue Hose's goalkeeping duo, Jordan Broadway and Sydney Fontenot. VMI also had eight corners to PC's two.

After Lopez put PC on the board early, she had a near miss just over a minute later. She did not, however, misfire at the 14:34 mark, when she was able to get a breakaway and convert against Marbury, making it a 2-0 lead. Nickerson entered at goalie in the 20th minute, and the Keydets had a near miss at 19:49, when a header sailed just over the crossbar, but the visitors added on in the 25th minute.

Miller possessed the ball for Presbyterian just inside the 18-yard box to Nickerson's left. She then found Brittany Whitson toward the middle of the box, and Whitson found a cutting Simpson for a chip over Nickerson's head and into the net, making it 3-0, Blue Hose.

VMI threatened in the 26th minute, when a Sarah Putney blast went high, but PC wrapped the scoring up at 33:35 with Lopez's third score. A long 1 v 1 with a VMI defender down the left sideline saw Lopez win the race and beat Nickerson to account for the final margin, 4-0.

In the second half, the Keydets forced Fontenot to stop three shots, but their best chance came off an Erica Putney corner kick in the 74th minute. That saw Killian Buckley drill a header off the crossbar, a shot that was then cleared away.

Nickerson made a pair of second-half saves to preserve the final score.

VMI women's soccer will return to action Wednesday, when the Keydets play host to UNC Asheville at 3 p.m.
