LEXINGTON, Va. - Both VMI swimming and diving programs announced their 2013-14 schedules Wednesday, as the information was released by head coach Bill Nicholson. The Keydet women will have two home meets and will be looking to build off last year's two-win season, the first such year in program history, while the VMI men will swim at Clark King Pool on Oct. 19 against Howard.
The men's team opens its season in Christiansburg Oct. 11, taking part in the Virginia Tech Swimming Challenge. All told, seven teams will be at the event, with the Keydets serving as one of the three men's squads. VMI will face North Carolina and the hosting Hokies at the event, which begins at 5 p.m.
The men and women are both in action the following weekend, playing host to Howard at Clark King Pool. The Keydet women will also face conference opponent North Carolina A&T at the same meet, turning the event into a tri-meet. The event is scheduled to get underway at 1 p.m., as is the women's dual the following weekend, when the Keydets play host to Radford.
The VMI men resume competition Nov. 1, when both they and the women face Gardner-Webb in Boiling Springs, N.C., and travel to Davidson the following day for a battle with the Wildcats. The women's squad then faces North Carolina A&T once again on Nov. 8, this time in Greensboro to wrap up the home-and-home and conclude the 2013 portion of the schedule.
Both squads wrap up their dual schedules on Jan. 25, when they face Washington and Lee at W&L's home facility in Lexington. The Virginia Tech Invitational in Christiansburg, a non-scored event, is the final regular season competition on the Keydet slate before the Feb. 19-22 CCSA Championships in Knoxville, Tenn.
NOTE: This release has been amended to indicate the W&L meet is an away dual, not a home event, as well as the location of the meets involving Virginia Tech. We apologize for any confusion.
