Four Keydets continue to play in the ranks of affiliated minor league baseball. Below are brief capsules on each. All statistics are through games of April 29.
Trey Barham, AA Midland (Oakland): Barham is officially listed on the roster of AA Midland, but is currently rehabbing from elbow surgery he underwent late last season. VMI's all-time wins leader hopes to return to the mound for game action later this season.
Sam Roberts, low-A Beloit (Oakland): Roberts has continued at the low-A Oakland affiliate, which was relocated to Beloit, Wisc. this season. After going 1 for 3 April 29, Roberts was hitting .235 on the year (in 19 games), but did have his second professional home run, and away from the frigid Wisconsin tundra, was hitting .304 in nine contests.
Adam Lopez, low-A Kannapolis (Chicago White Sox): It is Lopez who is off to the best start of this quartet of alumni. He has no record and a 3.21 ERA through his first seven games of 2013, but has struck out a startling 23 in just 14 innings of work. Interestingly, the right-hander has held left-handed hitters to just a .227 average so far this season.
Coby Cowgill, low-A Hickory (Texas): After a brief stint at extended spring training in early April, Cowgill was Hickory's first injury callup. While he has walked eight in 10 innings, he has a solid 3.60 ERA (six games) and opponents are hitting just .211 against the second-year right-hander.
