Keydets Play Host to Liberty for Critical Series This Weekend

The Keydets begin their season-ending run of nine home games over their final 10 contests Friday, taking on Liberty. It is Liberty’s first visit to Gray-Minor Stadium, and the first meeting between the teams, since 2011. Game times are 6 p.m. and 2 p.m., with the finale to follow after the 2 p.m. contest.

How to Follow

NOTE: Big South Network broadcasts are available for both games of Saturday's doubleheader, while VMI audio can be heard on 1450 AM WREL and for game two.

Fans can follow all three games via live stats. In addition, there will be Big South Network and internet audio broadcasts for Saturday and Sunday's contests. Fans in the Lexington area can also hear those two games on 1450 AM WREL.

Probable Starting Pitchers

Friday - VMI LHP Connor Bach (2-3, 2.60) vs. Liberty RHP Josh Richardson (1-2, 2.67)
Saturday, G1 - VMI RHP T.J. Lighton (4-2, 4.40) vs. Liberty RHP Brooks Roy (5-4, 3.67)
Saturday, G2 - VMI TBA vs. Liberty RHP Trey Lambert (6-3, 3.60)

Quick Hitters

This will be a matchup of two teams that are nearly equal on the mound. VMI has posted a 4.41 ERA to Liberty’s 4.42, while the Keydets have walked 15 fewer hitters in 25 2/3 more innings. Liberty, however, has a slight edge in K/9, 6.54 to 6.28.

Despite being held out of the starting lineup each of VMI’s last two games, Rob Dickinson was able to extend his streak of reaching base to 27 straight contests. That is the longest run by a Keydet since 2009.

This is a potentially critical series as it concerns the Big South Tournament. The Keydets are two games behind Charleston Southern and Gardner-Webb, who are currently tied for the #8 seed, while Liberty is narrowly in front of Presbyterian for the #6 spot.
