Throwers In Action at First Day of Liberty Invite

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Four VMI throwers earned top-eight finishes in their respective events, paced by a Rachel Sing runner-up finish in the women’s javelin and a Quincy Murphy sixth-place finish in the men’s version of the event, as VMI track and field opened competition at the Liberty Collegiate Invitational Friday in Lynchburg, Va. The meet was hosted at Liberty’s Matthes-Hopkins Track, the site of this year’s Big South Outdoor Championships.

Sing posted her runner-up finish in the javelin by hurling the implement 36.73 meters (120’6”), falling just short of her 36.97 meter personal best set earlier this season. In the men’s javelin, meanwhile, multi event athlete Murphy finished sixth with a 44.12 meter (144'9") effort, falling just short of a personal best set early this outdoor season at Washington & Lee.

Mary Grace Lemon was in action as well, finishing fifth in the women’s hammer with a best toss of 47.13 M/154’7”, while Jordan White was eighth in the men’s hammer at 38.22 M/125’5”.

VMI track and field will return to action Saturday, as the Keydets take part in day two of the Liberty Collegiate Invitational. Action gets underway at 9:30 a.m.
