Baseball Plays Host to VCU This Weekend

VMI baseball is back in action Friday, as the Keydets open a three-game non-conference series against the VCU Rams. Game time Friday is 6 p.m., with games Saturday (4 p.m.) and Sunday (2 p.m.) to follow.

How to Follow

Fans can follow along with the games via live stats. VCU will also broadcast a portion of the series via a radio broadcast, although which games the Rams will cover remains unclear.

A Note on Parking

Fans are cautioned to use the upper Gray-Minor Stadium Lot (the Marshall Hall lot) for Saturday's game, particularly if arriving early, due to VMI lacrosse's home game against Jacksonville that will take place on Drill Field #2.

Probable Starting Pitchers

Friday: VMI LHP Connor Bach (1-2, 2.79) vs. VCU LHP Heath Dwyer (4-3, 3.10)
Saturday: VMI LHP Campbell Henkel (1-3, 5.22) vs. VCU LHP Ryan Farrar (3-3, 4.20)
Sunday: VMI RHP Jeremy Brown (3-0, 2.88) vs. VCU RHP Seth Greene (1-1, 3.34)

Quick Hitters

This weekend’s three-game series between VMI and VCU is the first weekend series between the schools ever, as last season marked the first year the teams had played on more than two occasions in a single season.

The Keydets split their midweek games, led by Rob Dickinson’s 4 for 10 effort at the plate that saw him move into eighth on the all-time VMI hit list. Dickinson is now also ninth in career batting average (.325), just one point behind Rob Holmes ‘84 for eighth.

Matt Winn continues to blister the ball, as not only has he reached base in 16 straight games, a VMI team season-high, but he is hitting .414 over the Keydets’ last 10 ballgames.

Should he make his scheduled start this weekend, Jeremy Brown would tie Phil Hendrix ‘03 for the third-most games started in school history (42). In his six starts this season, Brown has posted a startling 27/2 strikeout to walk ratio in 32 1/3 innings of work.
