VMI Menís Soccer Announces 2013 Spring Schedule

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Gearing up for its non-championship season, the Virginia Military Institute men’s soccer team, under the guidance of head coach Richie Rose, who recently completed his third season at the helm, released its 2013 spring schedule Friday morning.

Two home matches adorn the Keydets’ spring slate  as VMI hosts next door neighbor Washington & Lee University on March 27 at 7 p.m. Two weeks later, VMI invites Roanoke College to Lexington for a match at 7 p.m. Both games will be played at Drill Field #2 at the Institute’s North Post.

The Keydets will take on a pair of teams that qualified for their respective conference tournaments.Saturday, March 23 will mark the first spring contest for the Keydets, who head to Fairfax, Va. to face George Mason University. Action is set for 11 a.m. against the Patriots, who earned the fifth seed at the Colonial Athletic Association championships last fall.

On April 16, VMI keeps things local with a 6 p.m. match at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va. Last season, the Flames headed to the Big South Conference tournament as the third seed.

VMI rounds out its spring schedule on April 20 with a tournament at UNC Greensboro. The Keydets take on the host at 11:30 a.m. in the tournament, which will be 70 minutes games with five minute half times. Earlier in the day at 10 a.m., Methodist will take on Lenoir-Rhyne. The winners of each game will play one another at 3:30 p.m., while the losers square off at 2 p.m.
