LOCK HAVEN, Pa. -- After nearly a month away from the mat, the Virginia Military Institute wrestling team returns to action on Saturday morning as the Keydets head to Lock Haven University for the Brute Invitational.

Action is set to kick off at 9 a.m. in Thomas Fieldhouse on the campus of Lock Haven. All of the action, which will pit wrestlers from 13 different institutions, can be followed through a Tournament Central. There will also be team points up for grabs, in addition to individual podium spots, during the Invitational.

Saturday’s tournament will be VMI’s first action since a Dec. 1 dual match at Drexel University. So far in the 2012-13 season, VMI has seen its wrestlers compete in 159 total matches, allowing the Keydets, who are a younger squad, particularly at the lighter weights, to gain experience. Of those 159 matches, 139 have come during various tournaments throughout the first half of the season.

VMI’s bread and butter this season has come in the upper five weight classes, where the Keydets have logged a .500 winning percentage, winning 37 of their 74 matches.

Junior heavyweight Juan Adams leads the way for VMI, posting 10 wins already this season, including a perfecto 2-0 record in duals. The native Texan has posted a pair of pins as well, and is currently working a two-match winning streak.

Freshman Mark Darr has impressed at 165 pounds so far in his young career, logging eight wins against six losses. Like Adams, Darr is undefeated in duals with a 2-0 record. At tournaments, the rookie has logged six wins, while also posting two major decisions and three wins by fall.
