PHILADELPHIA -- In its second match in as many evenings, the Virginia Military Institute wrestling team could not stave off a comeback against host Drexel University Friday evening at the Daskalakis Athletic Center.

Once again, VMI (0-2) picked up a majority of its team points in the upper weights. Ted Gottwald nabbed four points for VMI after nothing a decisive 11-3 major decision over the Dragons’ William Long. His win was followed by Mark Darr at 165 pounds in a second-straight major decision, 13-5 over Drexel’s Charles Aungst.

At the next weight, 174 pounds, John Dommert continued VMI’s success with a 7-2 decision against Kevin Mattyas. After dropping the 184-pound and a 197 pound decisions by fall and major decision, respectively, VMI capped its night with a 4-1 decision at heavyweight from junior Juan Adams, besting Drexel Jon Max Wright.

The Keydets are idle for nearly a month as the Institute heads into the end of the fall semester. VMI returns to action on Dec. 29, once again heading to Pennsylvania for the Brute Invitational, hosted by Lock Haven University in Lock Haven, Pa.
