CHARLOTTE, N.C. - VMI's Stan Okoye has been named the Big South Choice Hotels Player of the Week, according to information released by the conference Monday.

Okoye averaged 26.0 points, 11.5 rebounds, 3.5 steals, 3.5 assists and 2.0 blocks in leading the Keydets to two wins last week.  He opened his week with 22 points, seven rebounds, four steals and three assists in VMI’s 76-71 road win at Old Dominion -- the Keydets’ first win over the Monarchs since 1978 -- and scored the go-ahead basket with 3:29 remaining in the game.  Against Elon on Saturday, he tallied 30 points and 16 rebounds in leading VMI to the nine-point victory.  He grabbed 11 rebounds in the second half and a total of 15 defensive rebounds in the game as the Keydets came back from a halftime deficit.  For the week, Okoye was 19-of-37 from the field ( =51.4 percent) and was 12-of-18 at the line ( =66.7) -- with seven of his free throws coming in the second half.

VMI returns to action Wednesday, facing West Virginia in Morgantown, W. Va. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
