LEXINGTON, Va. - Basketball's D.J. Covington has been named the VMI Athlete of the Week, for the time period ending Nov. 21.
Covington posted strong performances in both of VMI's games this week, opening with a career-high 23-point effort in Thursday's loss to Virginia Tech. He came back strong Wednesday, posting a double-double (13 points, 10 rebounds) and seven blocks in the Keydets' win over Old Dominion in Norfolk, VMI's first win over ODU since 1978. The seven blocks were the second-most in Institute history, tying a game in which Lewis Preston had seven in 1992 - Covington and Eric Mann share the VMI record with nine rejections.
VMI basketball will return to action Saturday, facing Elon at 5 p.m. at Cameron Hall.
