The VMI cross country programs will return to action Friday afternoon, when the Keydets take part in the Blue Ridge Open in Boone, N.C. The women's 5K will get underway at 3 p.m., with the men's 8K to follow at 3:45. The meet marks VMI's final competition before the Big South Championships on Oct. 27.

The Keydets enter this event after competing at the Paul Short Run Sept. 28, when Cabell Willis and Jenna Moye led the way for their respective teams. For the women's team, every runner had a 6K personal best at the event, including Moye, who had a 21:54 clocking to finish 81st.

VMI has been a frequent participant in cross country events in Boone, including running in the Appalachian State Invitational in both 2009 and 2010. In 2009, Hannah Granger set what was then a school-record 5K for the women's team, a mark that was surpassed a year later, and in 2010, the men's team finished sixth overall, just behind Mississippi State and Kentucky.

Following this event, VMI will be back in action Oct. 27, taking part in the Big South Championships in Rock Hill, S.C. The meet will be hosted by Winthrop University.
