CHARLOTTE, N.C. - VMI safety Adam Morgan has been named the Big South Choice Hotels Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the conference Monday morning.

Morgan, playing his fifth collegiate game at safety after two years at quarterback, had two interceptions, two pass break-ups and two tackles in helping VMI to a 17-7 win over Presbyterian College in the Keydets’ Big South opener.  His first interception in the second quarter was a leaping grab between two players at the VMI 40-yard line.  Morgan’s second pick at the VMI 39-yard line ended PC’s opening drive of the second half.  His performance helped the Keydet defense hold PC to three first downs and 45 yards in the first half.

Morgan's honor is VMI's first Big South recognition of the season.

VMI football will return to action Saturday, traveling to N. Charleston, S.C. to face the Charleston Southern Buccaneers. Game time is set for 1:30 p.m.
