Callie Bonnel enters her first year at VMI as an assistant athletics academic advisor.
She comes to the Institute after serving as a student-athlete academic support services intern at Virginia Tech where she worked from January to May of 2019. Her primary responsibilities included mentoring and tutoring student-athletes, serving as a study hall monitor, assisting with events and planning and attending SAASS staff meetings.
A collegiate student-athlete, Bonnel lettered in lacrosse at Radford University from 2015-18 and served as a team captain for three years.
For the fall of 2015 and 2017, Bonnel served as a lacrosse clinic leader at Radford demonstrating and coaching skill development. She also served as a lacrosse camp counselor at Radford in the summers of 2016 and 2017 coaching players and supervising overnight campers.
During the summer of 2018, she served as an assistant coach for the JETS travel lacrosse team responsible for teaching skill-specific drills during practice and providing encouragement and motivation during practice and games.
Outside of athletics, Bonnel has experience working as an educational aide at the Rassieur Youth Center in Patuxent River, Maryland, and as an administrative assistant at Certified Counseling Services in Hollywood, Maryland.
Bonnel graduated from Radford in May 2019 with a bachelor of science degree in exercise, sport and health education with a concentration in sport administration.
