LEXINGTON, Va. – Returning to Lexington for league action, the VMI men’s soccer team will face the Spartans of UNCG for a Tuesday afternoon matchup at 4 p.m. at Patchin Field.
The Keydets (0-9-2, 0-4) are coming off a 6-0 loss Saturday night at Wofford, a game in which the Terriers jumped up to a 3-0 lead before the half and never let down to come out with the win over VMI.
Senior David Wright and Tuck lead the Keydets with two goals on the year while Christopher McGhan, Cooper Duplantis, Richard Quispe and Sohrab Shaikh each have one assist. Wright continues to pace the team in shot attempts with 17 thus far and is followed by McGhan’s eight. Jonathan Martinez is in third with five shots, while freshman Jessie Zavala and junior Cooper Duplantis both have four shot attempts on the year.

UNCG enters the match coming off a close 1-0 victory on the road at Mercer Saturday night, a double-overtime match that saw Thordur Johannesson score his first career goal with only three minutes left before the game ending with a scoreless tie.
Leeroy Maguraushe and Matt Mattis lead the offensive attack for the Spartans as both have recorded a pair of goals on the year. They are assisted by teammates Nelson Oceano and Josh Masten, who both have two assists to match Maguraushe for the category. Mattis also leads the way for the team in shot attempts this season with 19 with Maguraushe close behind with 15.
Goalie Jon Milligan has played every minute in the box for the Spartans, allowing only nine goals on the year for a .71 goals-against average and 40 saves through 12 games. He owns a .816 save percentage for the season.
