The 2017-18 academic year will be Hillary Masdon's third year at VMI. Hillary initially came to VMI as a seasonal athletic trainer working with Football and Track and Field. For the 2016-17 year, she stepped into the role as Assistant Athletic Trainer, with her primary sport coverage being football, men's and women's swimming and diving and women's water polo. She also serves as a clinical instructor in Athletic Training with Western Carolina University.
Hillary is from Newnan, Ga. and attended Auburn University where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science. After graduating from Auburn she went on to the University of Tennessee- Chattanooga (UTC) where she worked towards her Master of Science in Athletic Training.
While at UTC, Hillary was very involved within the athletic department and completed clinical hours with several UTC sports including a full season with the football team. She was the student representative from UTC on the Tennessee Athletic Training Society's Student Committee, and also served as an academic graduate assistant within the Graduate Athletic Training Program. Her masters' research focused on predictive modeling for injuries associated with collegiate football. She received the top graduate student award within the department of Health and Human performance in 2015.
Hillary is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association and is a licensed athletic trainer in the Commonwealth of Virginia. She currently resides in Lexington with her dog Lexi.
