After completing his medical school and orthopedic training at the University of Pittsburgh, Dr. Miller received a sports medicine fellowship at the Hughston Clinic in Columbus Georgia. Dr. Miller joined the Roanoke Orthopedic Center (now Carilion Clinic Orthopedics, Postal Drive) in 1986. Dr Miller’s has specialty interest and training in non-operative sports medicine, arthroscopy and knee and shoulder reconstruction.

As an extension of his sports medicine practice Dr. Miller has been a member of the USOC medical staff (Lake Placid), team physician for the U.S. national triathlon team at their World Championships and Goodwill games, served as Medical Director for USATriathlon for 15 years and has been part of Ironman Triathlon World Championship event medical staff since 1990.

His society memberships include: The American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery, Virginia Orthopedic Society, Arthroscopy Association of North America, Southern Orthopedic Association, USOC Sports Medicine Society, and American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine.

Dr. Miller holds academic appointments as Clinical Associate Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Virginia and Associate professor of Surgery at the Virginia Tech/Carilion School of Medicine.
