Cobb Named FCS ADA Academic All-Star for Second Year

LEXINGTON, Va. – Virginia Military Institute quarterback Al Cobb was named to the 2016 Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association (FCS ADA) Academic All-Star Team recently announced. It was the second consecutive year Cobb was named to the honor.

The squad featured 44 winners from FCS institutions and Cobb was one of four student-athletes from Southern Conference members. The nominees were required to have a minimum grade point average of 3.20 in undergraduate study and have been a starter or key player with legitimate athletic credentials. A special Review Committee of Football Championship Subdivision athletic directors voted on team selection.

Cobb, who holds a 3.65 GPA in Biology, plans to graduate in May and finished his playing career as VMI’s all-time leader in passing yardage (7,727) and career touchdowns (42).  Cobb also threw for 21 career 200-yard games and 11 career 300-yard games and holds 13 school passing records.

Cobb also named recipient of the 2016 Keydet Club Three-Legged Stool award which is given to the cadet-athlete who exemplifies excellence in academics, athletics and military during their cadetship at VMI.
