VMI played well this weekend against #14-ranked Clemson University, but the Tigers swept the series 8-6, 8-2 and 11-6. The Keydet starting pitching was solid against the powerful Clemson lineup, as junior Jacob Menders, freshman Adam Jewell and junior Zak Kent all threw at least five innings and kept their team in the ballgame. Menders threw game one and allowed three runs on six hits with two walks over five innings in a no-decision. Jewell also worked five innings, giving up just three hits and three walks with four runs with four strikeouts. Kent closed out the series with a good start of 5 1/3 innings, giving up only two hits, three walks and two runs with six strikeouts.

Senior first baseman Jake Huggins homered in the first game of the series, his third of the season. He is hitting .371 thus far on the season with 12 RBI, seven runs scored and a .686 slugging percentage.

JMU is 6-1 on the season after winning two of three from Lafayette University this weekend. The Dukes defeated VMI last season 4-3 in Harrisonburg, Va.

Old Dominion is 3-2 this season after taking two games from Binghamton this weekend. VMI and ODU split a pair of games last season.

The Keydets are scheduled to host both teams later in the season.
