SPARTANBURG, S.C. – After scoring a combined eight goals last week, VMI sophomore attack John Daniel has been named the Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Week as chosen by the league office Tuesday.

The Fairfax, Virginia, native scored one goal in a close 9-8 loss to Wagner last Tuesday before exploding for seven against Richmond on Saturday. The seven goals for a conference game is a new SoCon record, breaking the previous record of six held by five individuals, and tied for third in the VMI record book as Leo McInerney last accomplished the feat 13 years ago on March 12, 2005, against Robert Morris.

The seven goals also topped the combined five goals he had through the previous four games of the season.

On Tuesday against Wagner he registered one goal on nine shots in addition to an assist and a groundball.  He now leads the team with 12 goals on the year and ranks second on the team in points with 13. He also leads the team in shot attempts with 52 so far.

Air Force goalie Braden Host was named the Defensive Player of the Week.

The Keydets and Falcons face off this Saturday at noon MST in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
