BALTIMORE, Md. - Two school records fell, but the VMI swimming and diving teams dropped both ends of a dual meet at Loyola (Md.) in Baltimore, Md. Wednesday evening. The VMI men (1-6) lost by a 136.5-86.5 score, while the Keydet women (0-8) dropped a 159-58 decision.

John Kim, the reigning America East men's swimmer of the week, backed up that award with another impressive dual Wednesday. Kim won two events - the 200 free and 100 back - and broke his own school record in the backstroke event. His 100 back time of 51.58 is the second-fastest time in the conference this season, while his 1:48.10 in the 200 free ranks him 10th.

David Turbyfill, Ryan Schmitz and Jacob Smilie were also event winners for the VMI men, as Turbyfill won the 1650 free in 17:05.72, just ahead of teammate Thomas Muldowney's 17:06.10 effort. Muldowney closed the gap late with a sub-30 second length on his penultimate effort, but Turbyfill answered with a 28.23 last 50 yards to hold off the hard-charging freshman, who closed in 28.17. The same duo finished second and third in the 500 free as well.

Schmitz won the 50 free in 21.74 and finished second in the 100 free (47.95), while Smilie was victorious in the 200 IM (2:00.34). In addition, Gunnar Eichler finished third in the 100 breast in 1:03.99.

On the women's side, Isabel French broke her own school record in the 100 breast with a 1:12.20 effort, just under a year to the day of her setting the previous mark in Nov. 2016. French finished third on Wednesday night.

Natalie Rivas was the lone victor for the VMI women, as she won the 50 free in 25.59. Morgan Davis had a pair of runner-up finishes, placing second in the 200 IM (2:20.90) and 500 free (5:34.33), while McKenzie Raber was third in that same 500 free (5:38.53).

Wednesday's meet wrapped up the 2017 portion of the schedule for the Keydets, so VMI swimming and diving will return to action Jan. 20, when the Keydets return to Baltimore for a tri-meet against UMBC and East Carolina.
