Rifle Teams Fall to North Georgia

LEXINGTON, Va. – Competing for the first time in a month, the VMI rifle teams shot well but came up a little short in an upset bid over North Georgia Saturday morning at Kilbourne Hall.

The Nighthawks earned the win with 4580 points ahead of the VMI mixed team’s 4471 points and 4422 from the VMI women’s team. A club team from UVA also participated in the match. 

Hunter Jacob led the mixed team in the air rifle with a 576 followed by Samantha Alexander’s 565. Chris Milliken (562) and Nick Reynolds (559) also scored team points for the category with William Davidson close behind at 553.

Davidson tied with John Pitman in the smallbore with a 557 to pace the team with Alexander logging a 551. Freshman Jacob Lagace scored the final team points with his 544 and Reynolds closing with a 541.

The VMI women were led by Sabrina Bell in the air rifle as she tallied a 562 for the event and was pursued by senior Katherine Watson’s 561. The Lightfoot sisters became the third and fourth scorers, respectively, behind Kerrie’s 557 and Loyce’s 555. Senior Kaitlyn Morrison participated shooting a 552 for the category.

Sophomore Kelia Aardema led the way in the smallbore for the women’s team with a 550 followed by Watson’s 548. Alice Chiu (546) and Loyce Lightfoot (543) also scored for the event.

The Keydets return to action quickly to face the Air Force Academy Sunday at 8 a.m. at Kilbourne Hall.
