DURHAM, N.C. - Bria Anderson posted an eighth-place finish in the women's long jump, leading the VMI track and field teams on the opening day of the Duke Invitational, contested Friday in Durham, N.C.

Anderson equaled her seasonal best in the long jump on Friday, stretching the tape to 5.70 meters (18'8 1/2") to do so. Also in action Friday was Yaa Agyepong-Wiafe, who advanced to Saturday's finals in the 100 hurdles with a fourth-place finish in the prelims. Agyepong-Wiafe crossed the line in 13.95 seconds and was also 28th in the open 100, timing in at 12.25.

That was not VMI's best finish in the 100, however, as Kerisha Goode continued her strong outdoor season with a 12.07 effort that was good enough for a 15th-place result.

Finally, Mia McClain was 24th in the long jump with a 5.35 meter effort (17'6 3/4").

On the men's side, Greg Henderson led the way with a 10th-place finish in the 100 prelims, thanks to a 10.62 effort. In addition, Andrew Arlint was 11th in the pole vault (4.40 M/14'5 1/4"), Josh Willard was 26th in the 800 (1:54.56) and Jahanzib Shahbaz set a new personal best by over two seconds in that same event (1:55.68).

VMI track and field will return to action Saturday, when the Duke Invitational resumes at 3:30 p.m.
