VMI baseball will return to action Friday, when the Keydets open a three-game series against Western Carolina in Cullowhee, N.C. Game time is set for 2:30 p.m. (in a time change from the originally scheduled 5 p.m.), and games Saturday (1 p.m.) and Sunday (1 p.m.) will follow.

How to Follow

Fans can follow along with the action primarily via a SoCon Digital Network broadcast available for the Friday and Sunday games. There will be no video stream Saturday. Live stats and periodic updates via the @VMIbaseco Twitter page will be available as well.

Fans should note that there is a chance of rain in the Cullowhee area periodically during the weekend. The video broadcast schedule may change if the teams are forced to play a doubleheader.

Probable Starting Pitchers

Friday: VMI RHP Josh Winder vs. WCU LHP Bryan Sammons
Saturday: VMI RHP Matt Eagle vs. WCU LHP Tristan Baker
Sunday: VMI LHP Brandon Barbery vs. WCU LHP Brendan Nail

First Words - Game Notes

Josh Winder gets the ball for the Keydets on Friday, as he looks to rebound from the first zero-strikeout game of his career. Winder still ranks in the top-15 in Division I in K's this season and is just 35 strikeouts away from tying Michael Bowman's single-season school record (110), achieved in 2007.

VMI enters this weekend's series fielding .967 - if the Keydets can get to the end of the season with that mark, it would be the third-best fielding percentage in school history and only the fifth time the Keydets had fielded .965 or better in a single year.

The Keydets have had a pitcher with at least 25 appearances every year since 2010. The team leader in games pitched, Derek Tremblay, has a good chance to extend that streak. He needs to pitch in six of the final 17 games of the year to hit the 25 appearance plateau.

Next Time Out

The Keydets do not have a midweek game next week, but will return to action April 28 when they open a three-game series at Radford. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
