Ryan Eddy enters his third year as an assistant athletic trainer at the Institute. He serves as the primary athletic trainer for the VMI football team.
2016-17 was Ryan Eddy's first year as a full-time assistant athletic trainer at VMI. Eddy was hired by VMI at the beginning of the academic year to be the athletic trainer for the women's soccer team in the fall and the lacrosse team in the spring.
Eddy was born and raised in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania where he graduated from Waynesboro Area Senior High School in the spring of 2011. Upon graduation, he decided to attend Pennsylvania State University in the fall to pursue a Bachelor's degree in athletic training.
After being accepted into the athletic training program at Penn State in December of 2012, he started working with the women's volleyball team. The following two academic years, he was the undergraduate athletic training student with State College High School Football, Penn State Men's Ice Hockey, Men's Basketball, and Baseball. He graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 2015 with a bachelor's degree in Kinesiology with a specialization in Athletic Training.
Following graduation, Ryan went to the University of Virginia to obtain a Master's of Education degree in Athletic Training, to which he graduated in 2016 while serving as the Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer with the Baseball team. He successfully defended his master's thesis in June of 2016 after completing a project entitled Test-Retest Reliability and the Effects of Exercise on the King Devick Test. Prior to graduation, he was inducted into the McCue Sports Medicine Society at the University of Virginia. He is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association and is a licensed athletic trainer in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Along with being an athletic trainer at VMI, Eddy lives in Lexington and enjoys spending time with his puppy, Kite.
