Josh Winder's Career Stats 

2018: Became the third-highest draft pick in school history when he was selected in the seventh round by the Twins...was only the third VMI pitcher ever (and only the second full-time pitcher) selected in the top-10 rounds...finished his career at VMI with the top K/9 mark in school history, second in BB/9, tied for third in wins, second in strikeouts, and fourth in both games started and innings pitched...Second Team All-SoCon for the second straight year...went 5-6 with a 5.40 ERA as he battled health issues at various times...scattered 11 hits to win his fourth straight start 5/11 vs. Wofford...K’d 10 in a complete game win at Mercer 4/27...took a no-hitter into the fifth in win over Furman 4/20...turned in his best outing of the year 4/13 vs. Western Carolina, posted a season-high 11 K’s in eight innings to earn the win...went 6 2/3 innings vs. UMass Lowell 3/9, striking out nine and allowing just one earned run (7 total, 6 UE)...picked up the win 2/23 vs. Lafayette when he threw five innings and did not allow an earned run...Preseason SoCon Pitcher of the Year, named so by the conference and Baseball America...#2 prospect in the SoCon according to BA...Preseason All-SoCon (Perfect Game).

2017: Second Team All-SoCon honoree...pitched eight shutout innings against The Citadel in the conference tournament, combining on just the second shutout in VMI baseball postseason history...was named SoCon All-Tournament Team for his efforts...finished the year 7-6 with a 3.59 ERA...finished in the top-30 in Division I in strikeout/walk ratio, complete games and strikeouts...named SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week three times...earned Academic All-District and VaSID All-Academic honors as well...set school records in single-season innings pitched (107 2/3) and strikeouts (112)...gave up three runs, two earned, over 8 1/3 IP in win over UNCG 5/5, K'd 10 for his sixth double-digit K effort of the year...scattered four hits in seven innings 4/28 at Radford, got a no-decision despite his fifth 10-K game of the season...struggled 4/14 against Mercer, allowing multiple earned runs in an inning three times after not having done so in previous 31 IP...4/14 game against Mercer was first career game in which he did not strike out a batter...did not allow an earned run over six innings in 4/7 opener at Wofford, ended streak of three straight CG's...earned Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Week and SoCon Pitcher of the Week honors 4/3 for his efforts against Samford...pitched a CG shutout against Samford with three hits and 12 K's 3/31, VMI's first shutout against a conference opponent since 2013...struck out a career-high 14 against The Citadel 3/24 in second straight eight-inning CG, but lost to JP Sears' 20 strikeout game...took hard luck loss 3/17 at Elon, pitched an eight-inning CG and allowed three runs...set new career-high with 11 K's and did not allow a run in win over GW 3/3...tied career-high with 10 K's over eight innings in 2/24 win over Bucknell...got the win in VMI's season opener Feb. 17 vs. Appalachian State, allowed five runs in 6 IP but just one hit over last four innings...named to Perfect Game's SoCon Preseason All-Conference Team.

2016: Finished the year 4-4 with a 4.80 ERA...was named to the SoCon All-Freshman Team...set a new school record with 10 strikeouts in SoCon Tournament play-in game against The Citadel...took a 2-1 lead into the ninth inning in that contest, but the bullpen failed to hold that advantage...become the first VMI SoCon Player/Pitcher of the week since 2001 on March 7...allowed one run over 10 innings 3/6 against Binghamton, striking out 10 and becoming the first Keydet P to throw 10 IP in single game in aluminum bat era...pitched three one-hit innings in opener against Samford 5/19...gave up four runs over six innings in victory over Furman 5/13...allowed three earned runs in six innings, striking out five and walking one in a no-decision at ETSU 4/30...struck out seven in 7 1/3 solid innings 4/16 against Mercer...saw his ERA rise by over a run in April 10 no-decision against WCU...struck out eight over six innings but took the loss in the finale against The Citadel...gave up one run in 5 1/3 innings 3/20 against Rider...scattered three hits in a seven-inning CG against UMES 3/13...made his collegiate debut 2/20 against Wake Forest, allowing seven runs in 4 1/3 IP.

High School/Personal: First-Team all-conference and second team all-region...set school record for fewest runs allowed in a season...played for father of former Keydets Mike and Sam Roberts on the Virginia Swamp Things travel team...named all-tournament at the 2014 WWBA U17 National Championship...West Point Leadership Award...AP Scholar with Honors...National Honor Society...World Language Honor Society...intends to major in economics and business.
