Will Malbon's Career Stats

2017: Hit .349 with three homers in 18 games...missed the rest of the season following mid-March series at Elon due to back injury...received a medical redshirt and will return for the 2018 season...2 for 3 with a home run and two RBI in loss to #13 UVA 2/21...homered in series opener against Bucknell 2/24, two homers in a week after hitting three in all of 2016...named SoCon Player of the Week after going 7 for 11 with 15 total bases in GW series 3/3-5...was his first career POTW honor...became first Keydet since 2013 with three doubles in a game 3/11 vs. Quinnipiac (Sheldon Shifflett), tied a career-high with four hits as well...went 7 for 14 with three doubles in series win over Quinnipiac 3/10-12...saw his six-game hitting streak snapped at ODU 3/14...went 18 for 35 (.514) at Gray-Minor Stadium in nine home games that he was able to play.

2016: Finished the year hitting .184 with three homers as VMI's regular center fielder...went 2 for 4 with a home run, a double and four RBI in middle game of ETSU series (4/30)...3 for 6 with three RBI and two runs scored April 12 against JMU...moved into the leadoff spot April 5 against Radford...hit his second home run in March 26's win over The Citadel...hit a two-run homer against Rider March 20...filled up the stat sheet March 16 against Mason, going 2 for 3 with two RBI and three runs scored...stole bases in each of the three games against UMES, the last of which gave him a new career high in that category...had walk-off double in the 10th inning to beat Binghamton 3/6...stole two bases in back to back games 2/26 and 27 vs. Lafayette.

2015: Saw action in 38 games and hit .215 with a homer and nine RBI...went 5 for 10 with three extra-base hits. four runs scored and three RBI in first two games of the season at North Florida...hit his first career home run in 3/11 win at JMU...3 for 5 with two runs scored and two steals 3/15 vs. Central Connecticut State...2 for 3 with two RBI on a game-winning single in win at #12 Virginia 4/1, the first VMI had beaten Virginia back to back times since 1958/1960...made a game-saving, diving catch to preserve win over ETSU 4/12...nine of his final 11 appearances were as a defensive replacement, when he did not record an at-bat.

2014: Played in 40 games, starting 21, as a true freshman...was frequent defensive replacement late in games...played center field his first year on Post, with Brandon Angus moving to right field when he was in the game...hit .188 with three doubles and four RBI...3 for 5 with a double and RBI in 3/1 win over UMES...also 2 for 3 with a run scored in win over Buffalo that same day...1 for 3 with a RBI in 3/5 loss at Wake Forest...2 for 4 with a RBI and run scored in middle game of Presbyterian series...scored two runs April 26 vs. Winthrop...1 for 3 with a run scored and a double in season finale vs. Charleston Southern...threw out potential winning run at home plate in extra innings of April 13 win at High Point...also recorded outfield assist 4/26 at Winthrop.

High School/Personal: Four-year letterwinner at Cox HS…First Team All-Beach District in 2013…Second Team All-Region...Second Team All-Beach District as a junior, when he earned team MVP honors…hitting .425 with 25/26 stolen bases as a senior…two-year co-captain…National Honor Society…Honor Roll during entire high school career…played for Orioles Scout Team during the summer months…brother was four-year member of ODU baseball…cousin played in Cub and Indian organizations, now a hitting coach in Toronto system…father played soccer at Hampden-Sydney…intends to major in economics and business at the Institute.
