BALTIMORE, Md. – Former Virginia Military Institute face-off specialist Stephen Robarge '12 has eanred a spot on the US Team roster for the upcoming intra-squad scrimmage at the Capital Classic, hosted at the Landon School in Bethesda, Md.

The intra-squad scrimmage is slated for 3 p.m. as part of the Mario St. George Boiardi Foundation Capital Lacrosse Classic. In addition to the US Intra-squad scrimmage, four of the top NCAA Division I teams, Cornell University, Penn State University, Johns Hopkins University and University of North Carolina, will also take part in the Captial Lacrosse Classic.

Robarge, a member of Major League Lacrosse's Denver Outlaws, is one of four face-off specialists on the rosters. He will be joined by the Long Island Lizard's Greg Gurenlian, and Chesapeake Bayhawks pairing of Alex Smith and Adam Rand.

The career record holder at VMI in groundballs, Robarge helped guide the Outlaws to the MLL Championship game this summer. Denver fell to the Bayhawks 16-6.

Robarge is the only former Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference player to earn a spot on the intra-squad roster. He will be joined by a trio of Denver teammates in midfielders Terry Kimener and Jeremy Sieverts, and goalkeeper Jesse Schwartzmann.

Throughout the 2012 VMI season Robarge, who was the first Keydet drafted by an MLL organization, scooped up 127 groundballs, averaging 9.07 per game. His season average was bolstered by a run of five games in which he grabbed double-digit grounders, capped by a career-high 15 at Canisius. On seven occasions in 2012, Robarge grabbed 10 or more groundballs, a career best for the program's all-time groundball getter. Robarge was also the top groundball man in the conference, with second place collecting only 83 during the year

While claiming his second consecutive NCAA Division I groundball title, Robarge becomes the first player to win the crown in back-to-back seasons since the NCAA began recognizing national stat champions in the category in 1999. He is also the first player to win the face-off winning percentage title since Smith did it for the University of Delaware in three consecutive seasons (2005-07).

Robarge, who was named USILA Third Team All-America in 2012, claimed victory in 209 of his 314 draws, winning at a 66.6 percent clip. On four occasions in 2012, Robarge won 20 or more face-offs in a game, the only player to do so four times this year. On three of those occasions, Robarge went at least 80.0 percent, including 24-28 at Jacksonville (85.7). Of his four 20-win games, three came in MAAC contests.
