2012-13 Schedule
LEXINGTON,
Va. – In addition to four home dual matches, the 2012-13 VMI wrestling schedule
will be highlighted by the Southern Conference Tournament being contested in
Lexington this season.
VMI
will be hosting the SoCon Tournament for the first time since 2005-06 when the
competition was held in Cameron Hall. This year year's tournament will be held in VMI's 5,000 seat Cameron Hall. Action is set for Mar. 9 at 11 a.m.
The
Thunderdome was kind to the Keydets last season, where VMI won three of its
five duals. In 2012-13, VMI will host the ACC’s Duke University on Jan. 19 in
the Keydets’ home opener. On Jan. 30, VMI will take on intrastate foe George Mason.
VMI takes on military rival The Citadel on Feb. 15 and rounds out its home
duals on Feb. 19 with SoCon power Appalachian State. All four home duals will
begin at 7:30 p.m. in Cocke Hall.
VMI
will open the 2012-13 season with a pair of tournaments on Nov. 4 down the road
to Blacksburg, Va. for the Hokie Open, hosted by Virginia Tech. The following
weekend, VMI will look to compete at the Wolfpack Open, hosted by NC State in
Raleigh, N.C.
The
Keydets continue the tournament trail on Nov. 18 as they head to Philadelphia
to partake in the Keystone Classic, hosted by the University of Pennsylvania.
The event, with time to be determined, will be held in the historic Palestra.
After
nearly two weeks off the competition mat, VMI will open its dual season,
returning once again to Pennsylvania to face Franklin & Marshall. Match
time is set for 7:30 in Lancaster. The next day, VMI will make the short trip
to Philadelphia to face Drexel University in the Daskalakis Athletic Center.
Rounding
out the 2012 portion of the schedule, VMI will make a third straight appearance
in the Keystone State, this time heading to Lock Haven, Pa. for the Brute
Invitational on Dec. 29. in Thomas Fieldhouse.
After
the winter break, VMI returns to dual action, traveling to Buies Creek, N.C.
for its SoCon opener at Campbell University’s John W. Pope Jr. Convocation
Center. In one final tournament before the Keydets’ homeopener with Duke, VMI
will travel to the Hampton Coliseum on Jan. 11 and 12 for the Virginia Duals.
After
the Duke dual, VMI hits the road for a pair of SoCon match ups, heading to
Gardner-Webb on Jan. 25 for a 7 p.m. dual, followed by a match at Davidson on
either Jan. 26 or Jan. 27.
On Feb.
2, the Keydets will head north to West Point, N.Y. for the All-Academy
Championships, hosted by the United States Military Academy (Army). VMI returns
to the south and heads for Chapel Hill N.C. for a dual match with University of
North Carolina on Feb. 8 at Carmichael Arena.
After
its matches with The Citadel and Appalachian State, VMI will round out its
regular season with a trip to Chattanooga, Tenn. for a SoCon doubleheader with
host Chattanooga and SoCon Newcomer SIU-Edwardsville.
With
bids to the NCAA championships on the line at the SoCon Tournament, VMI will
look to use its schedule to prepare its wrestlers for the league championships.
